Latest IAJV newsletter

Hi everyone,

We are pleased to send this update which includes details of the Australian tour by Jewish writer Avigail Abarbanel for which we had sought your support. We were gratified by the response and as a result we are pleased to be able to make a generous contribution to the tour. Her book ‘Beyond Tribal Loyalties’ will be the focus of various events around Australia, the details of which are in the Events section of the IAJV website.

It was also to be the topic of a panel discussion at the forthcoming Melbourne Limmud-Oz (June 9-11) but the event was summarily cancelled without explanation after the topic and speakers were already listed on the Limmud-Oz website. We have now organized an unofficial protest side-event in the same venue at Monash University, the details of which are here.

A letter concerning this repeat of the 2011 cancellations in Sydney has been appeared in J-Wire and may be seen here. The cancellation of the Limmud-Oz event also made it to the Israeli newspaper Haarertz.

As can be seen on the Australian Jewish Democratic Society website, there’s a petition that you may wish to sign, that reads, in part: “the decision by the Committee of Limmud Oz 2012 to prevent a panel “Beyond Tribal Loyalties – personal stories of Jewish peace activists” at this year’s Melbourne conference as a blatant act of political censorship.”

We would be grateful for further support for our ongoing efforts which can be made in the following ways. You may use the “Donate” button on our website
