Harper Collins should stop publishing Gilad Sharon after he called on Israel to “Flatten all of Gaza”

Dear Mr. Kent,
Gilad Sharon, whose books are published by Harper Collins divisions in Canada, the US, Australia, and New Zealand, wrote an article in the Jerusalem Post on November 18 regarding Israel’s latest attack on Gaza, which should be of deep concern to you.
In his OpEd, “A decisive conclusion is necessary,” Sharon writes, “The desire to prevent harm to innocent civilians in Gaza will ultimately lead to harming the truly innocent: the residents of southern Israel. The residents of Gaza are not innocent, they elected Hamas.”
This statement in itself – arguing that there is no such thing as an innocent civilian in Gaza – is reprehensible enough, given the fact that Israel has been attacking, seriously wounding, and killing civilians in Gaza indiscriminately (including children, pregnant women, and journalists). But Sharon goes further.
In fact, he goes too far.
Sharon writes, “We need to flatten entire neighborhoods in Gaza. Flatten all of Gaza. The Americans didn’t stop with Hiroshima – the Japanese weren’t surrendering fast enough, so they hit Nagasaki, too.”
As you know, Sharon is the son of former Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and therefore a prominent political figure in Israel, a state which possesses nuclear weapons. This is the context in which Sharon is advocating that Israel “Flatten all of Gaza” like the US did in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Under the UN convention Article IIIc, “Direct and public incitement to commit genocide” is illegal. It is also morally abhorrent.
As a Jewish human rights organization, with Holocaust survivors among our members, we do not take it lightly when people advocate the mass murder of civilian populations, as Sharon has done. Neither should you.
We demand that Harper Collins immediately cease publishing any and all writings by Gilad Sharon and issue a public statement to that effect. We also demand the immediate expulsion of Sharon from the Harper Collins speakers bureau.
Anything less would be unbecoming of a respectable international publisher.
We await your prompt response in this serious matter.
